12 is Enough

After deciding my book reading goal as 100 for the year 2025, I thought to myself: don’t be hard on yourself—let’s read 50 instead.

:)

I read 12.

As December started to come to an end, I had my annual book check, counting the books I read and looking longingly at my TBR list.

What I could have read and what I should have read.

All the books I have promised myself I will see the last pages of. They were squeaking, “you promiseddddd.”

To be truthful, I am ashamed. As someone majoring in books and media, I should be able to devour the books I have on hand in no time. Yet I can even find it hard to finish a book I am reading sometimes, let alone start a new one.

Of course, reading is not a linear process, and when I look into Bookstagram pages—who read two books in a day—I feel incomplete and incompetent. I have to remind myself: reading one book per month is more than okay.

I have to look into my article drawer to show myself, as proof, that books are not the only things I am reading. I read articles, magazines, and newspapers, &c. I have lectures to review and a job to go to.

I read 12, and it is enough.
